AEG Presents CEO Jay Marciano has strongly criticized Live Nation and Ticketmaster for their monopolistic practices in the U.S. live entertainment industry, particularly through exclusive ticketing agreements with major venues. Marciano believes this monopoly limits competition, drives up ticket prices, and restricts artists’ freedom to choose their ticketing partners. He is optimistic about the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) lawsuit, filed in May 2024, to break up the two companies and end what he sees as a system that harms both consumers and the broader live music sector. The DOJ lawsuit, which is supported by 30 U.S. states, accuses Live Nation and Ticketmaster of using their market dominance to unfairly control ticketing and concert promotion, to the detriment of fans, artists, and smaller promoters​.
